The CommBank Emerging Matildas and CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships kicks off this week, where Australia's most promising young footballers are given the opportunity to showcase their ability in front of national team technical staff.
A cornerstone of Football Australia’s national talent identification, the tournament runs over 12 days and will bring together teams from Football Australia’s nine State and Territory Member Federations along with hosting invitational teams including the Charles Perkins XI, Vietnam Football Federation and Japan Football Academy.
The championships have long served as a proving ground for the next generation of national team stars.
From Mackenzie Arnold to Emily van Egmond and Kyra Cooney-Cross, this tournament has an impressive resume of alumni.

Formerly the National Youth Championships, the competition entered a new era in 2025 as the Emerging Championships - a name that says exactly what it is: where the next generation of national team stars emerge.
This year, the girls will kick things off, with Victoria Blue returning as U16 champions after knocking off NSW Sky last year. This time, they’ve got home soil on their side and every reason to believe they can go back-to-back.
In the U15s, NSW edged out Northern NSW to retain their crown and once again look like one of the teams to beat.
Over on the boys’ side, Victoria Blue (U15) and NSW Sky (U16) both went back-to-back, but there will be no easy run this year.
Queensland and Western Australia are coming in hungry after falling just short in last year’s deciders.
There’s also a strong international flavour, with Vietnam’s U15 women’s national team and the Japan Football Association (JFA) Academy U15 men’s side joining the mix, building on Malaysia’s appearance in last year’s boys’ tournament.
