CommBank Junior Matildas to play curtain raiser in Gosford as part of ASEAN-Australia Women's Football Week 2025

Football Australia is proud to announce the CommBank Junior Matildas will take centre stage in Gosford this November as part of the inaugural ASEAN-Australia Women’s Football Week 2025, playing a curtain raiser ahead of the CommBank Matildas’ match against New Zealand.

The CommBank Junior Matildas will face off against Thailand’s U16 Women’s National Team in a friendly match on 28 November 2025 at polytec Stadium, Gosford. The match will also be broadcast live on Paramount+.

This fixture follows an earlier clash between the two sides on 25 November at Wanderers Football Park in Sydney, and forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen regional ties and promote youth development in women’s football.

These matches are a key highlight of ASEAN-Australia Women’s Football Week 2025, a landmark celebration supported by the Australian Government through DFAT and the ASEAN-Australian Centre, in a partnership with the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The week-long program will also feature the ASEAN-Australia Women’s Football Development Seminar, held from 26 to 30 November in Sydney.

The Seminar will bring together representatives from each ASEAN Member Association, including Heads of Women’s Football Development and Women’s Competitions Managers, to collaborate on advancing the women’s game across southeast Asia. Key objectives include:

  • Building capacity in women’s football development
  • Promoting gender equality and participation at all levels
  • Strengthening regional partnerships
  • Fostering cultural exchange and leadership
  • Reflecting on the legacy of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
  • Exploring future opportunities including the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026

Participants will also attend the double header in Gosford on 28 November, further reinforcing the spirit of regional unity and shared progress.
