Football Australia has named two CommBank Joeys squads for international activity in September and October, with Australia’s 2009-born players set to contest the U17 Copa España 2026 and the 2010-born age group travelling to China for the U16 CFA Invitational 2026.
Both groups will be in camp from Monday, 21 September to Friday, 2 October, providing important international match experience at different stages of their respective development cycles.
Led by Head Coach Carl Veart, the 2009-born squad will travel to Spain for the U17 Copa España 2026, the group’s final activity before selection for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
The CommBank Joeys (2009) will face Panama and Morocco during the tournament, providing contrasting international opponents as preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup enter their final stages.
Meanwhile, Paul Reid will oversee the 2010-born group at the U16 CFA Invitational 2026 in China, where Australia will face Vietnam, Kyrgyz Republic and hosts China PR.
The tournament will mark the first opportunity for the 2010-born players to come together as a group to travel and compete against international opposition.
Together, the two activities reflect Football Australia’s strategic approach to preparing the current U17 group for immediate tournament objectives while developing the next generation ahead of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 and the next FIFA U-17 World Cup cycle.
