CommBank ParaMatildas defeat Colombia 8-0 in second group stage game

The CommBank ParaMatildas defeated Colombia 8-0 in the second group stage game of the IFCPF Women’s World Cup on Sunday morning (AEDT).

Leah Spaine scored four goals on debut, while Trinity McPhie and Georgia Beikoff both scored braces to complete the comprehensive victory.

All five starting players were changed from game one. Leah Spaine started on debut, Carly Salmon started between the sticks, and Trinity McPhie, Tamsin Colley and Lainee Harrison completed the starting team.

McPhie got scoring underway in the first half. Colley played it central to the Queenslander, who finished well from outside the penalty area.

She made it two just before half-time. Picking up the ball from inside her own half, McPhie took several touches before slotting home another precise strike from long distance.

Georgia Beikoff was substituted on for Lainee Harrison in the 31st minute, and had an immediate impact. Spaine did well to win the ball high, playing a nice one-two with Beikoff, before the substitute got on the end of the loose ball and scored Australia’s third.

Spaine’s goalscoring efforts started less than a minute later. Beikoff cut the ball back from the byline into her path. Her effort from outside the penalty area looped over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for her first international goal.

Beikoff scored her second in the 47th minute, a fine pass from Spaine finding her free on the edge of the penalty area.

Three more goals followed in the final minutes of the game, all from the boot of Spaine. The first was a finish from a tight angle after a pass from Beikoff. Then, she scored at the back post from a corner, and completed the scoring with a long-range effort deep in stoppage time, making it four for herself and eight for the team.

The ParaMatildas next take on the Netherlands on Tuesday morning (AEDT).
