Football Federation Australia (FFA) is offering the football community another bumper week of entertainment, as the Federation seeks to offer the football community a diverse range of content to stay connected throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australian referee Jarred Gillett is set to become the first foreigner to officiate a Premier League match after the 34-year-old was promoted to Select Group 1 by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

The FFA Cup looks a bit different in 2021, with a number of changes made to combat further disruption from lockdowns and border closures around the country. 

The first change was to amend the draw principles, breaking the Round of 32 into four regionalised zones. The format has also been extended into the Round of 16, with teams from Queensland (QLD), Western Australia (WA) and South Australia (SA) pitted against each other.

With just under 10 months until the next AFC Women's Asian Cup, the host cities and stadiums have been confirmed for the 2022 tournament. 

Three host cities and stadiums were chosen by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ Local Organising Committee (LOC) on Friday. 

The Westfield Matildas are one of four nations to have qualified for the tournament so far, alongside hosts India, defending champions Japan, and China PR.

After two years on the road, the Socceroos played out a 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia in front of 23,314 fans at Western Sydney Stadium.

Football Australia is saddened to learn of the passing of Socceroo number 148, Alan Garside.

Garside passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, 23 May 2021 surrounded by his four children.

Garside, a prolific striker, made his ‘A’ international debut against South Africa in October 1955 in Newcastle, Australia.

He played an additional four ‘B’ internationals between 1953 and 1957, scoring three goals.

Up until his recent passing, Garside was recognised as Australia’s second-oldest Socceroo.

The FFA Cup will make a welcome return to the Australian sporting scene this weekend with the first Preliminary Round matches of the 2021 iteration of the competition to be held in Queensland.

The Chairman of Football Federation Australia (FFA), Mr Steven Lowy AM, said today he did not intend to seek re-election when his term expires in November this year.

Mr Lowy said he wanted to foreshadow his intention now, ahead of the 30 September deadline for nominations, to create the best possible environment to break the looming deadlock among stakeholders about the formation of an expanded Congress and preserve the independence of the FFA board which is critical to the game’s future success.
