A Nation in a Name: Dianne Alagich
Di Alagich was part of 3 World Cups and 2 Olympic Games campaign.
The history of Australian football is the history of our multicultural nation: the introduction of new cultures and communities, the rise and fall of structures and institutions, the coming-together of scattered groups to achieve a common goal.

Woven throughout this story are the lives and legacies of individuals and families who have made football – and the country in which it exists – what it is today.

One of those great family names is Alagich.

While former Westfield Matildas defender Dianne Alagich was the first woman in her family to make a mark on the…

The decision to shift the tournament to Sydney after the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, was made by the Asian Football Confederation and revealed on Saturday.

Johnson says the result comes from ongoing discussions between FFA, the AFC and all the associated participating member associations to ensure the tournament took place in safe conditions for all.

The Young Matildas have it all to play for in their final group game after going down to Brazil 2-0 at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Torrential rain in Costa Rica wreaked havoc. With puddles forming on the surface and the ball holding up due to the deluge, the match was delayed for over an hour due to the conditions with play pausing in the 28th minute.

Prior to the rain delay, Brazil managed to find the opener through some neat build-up play.  A cut into the box was pulled back for Priscila. While her first attempt was blocked, her second one was struck…

Funding Football in Australia
FFA Logo
Football in Australia has a big agenda.

We’re the biggest participation sport by a country mile.

We have ambitious plans for the Hyundai A-League and the Westfield W-League.

And as we have just seen in Russia, we want to be able to compete more effectively in the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups by identifying talent in our grassroots clubs and nurturing that talent to be the best it can be.

But football also faces some challenges. Our game doesn’t yet generate the massive revenues from broadcast agreements that the other major codes enjoy. That’s why we are expanding the Hyundai A-…
