The COVID-19 pandemic forced mandatory border closures and stay at home orders in Australia which forced many football programs and competitions to abruptly pause and eventually be cancelled throughout 2020.  The impact was far reaching across the community and professional level of sports across the country.

Football Australia in 2019 witnessed continued growth in grassroots football participation with over 543,000 players registering for outdoor organised football, and over 63,000 playing futsal. Total participation overall had reached a record 2 million participants.

It  was a day of recognition on Saturday, 22 May as Football Australia and Football NSW staff joined forces on a Kissing Point FC matchday to lend a hand as part of National Volunteer Week. 

With over 1 million volunteers in our game, their importance cannot be understated, especially after the tumultuous year that was 2020.

‘I had the legs of an 85-year-old’: How Pararoo Chris Barty beat the odds through football

Before he became a Pararoos stalwart, Chris Barty was at a fork in the road.

As a 21-year-old government worker with no interest in football, Barty’s forthcoming career as an international goalkeeper seemed a world away, but a startling medical revelation forced Barty to find a way get active.

And through football he found a remedy.

“I started playing football at the age of 21,” Barty said.

“I wasn’t that keen to play because I never really had an interest in football.

FFA to review National Club Identity Policy

Football Federation Australia has announced it will conduct a review of the National Club Identity Policy (NCIP).

FFA Chief Executive Officer David Gallop said the policy was introduced in 2014 after consultation with Member Federations to ensure consistency about how clubs were identified.

“The objective of the NCIP is to safeguard the inclusivity of football whilst also enabling appropriate recognition of the rich history of many long-standing football clubs,” said Gallop.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced it has imposed sanctions on Nathaniel Atkinson, Riley McGree, Lachlan Wales and Brandon Wilson for breaches of clauses 2.1 and 6.1 of the FFA National Code of Conduct (the Code of Conduct). 

The sanction imposed on Atkinson, Wales and Wilson is as follows:

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has sanctioned a Queensland registered player for betting on football matches, in breach of the FFA National Code of Conduct.

The breaches included betting on matches involving his own club, as well as other Football Brisbane Premier League, National Premier League, FFA Cup and A-League matches.

FFA has issued a sanction of a $500 fine payable now and an immediate two (2) match suspension. The sanction also includes a further suspended two (2) match suspension, to be triggered immediately in the event of another breach of the Code of Conduct.
