Football Australia joins the Australian football community in mourning the passing of Estelle Bowman, former President and Life Member of Football South Australia.
A dedicated football administrator and advocate, Estelle gave many years of service to the game and was deeply committed to strengthening football and the communities it serves.
Her contribution was felt across all levels of the sport, from her longstanding involvement in community football through to her leadership of Football South Australia.
In 2022, Estelle became the first woman elected President of Football South Australia – a significant milestone in the organisation’s history and a reflection of her standing within the South Australian football community.
Football Australia Chair Anter Isaac said Estelle would be remembered for both her service to football and the way in which she served the game.
“Estelle was a wonderful football person who gave enormously to our game and the people within it,” Mr Isaac said.
“Her contribution extended well beyond the positions she held. She cared deeply about football, about the people who make our game possible, and about ensuring others had the opportunity to contribute and succeed.
“As the first woman to serve as President of Football South Australia, Estelle also holds an important place in the history of our game. Her leadership helped demonstrate the opportunities that exist for women to lead at the highest levels of Australian football administration.
“Those who worked with Estelle will remember her passion, generosity and genuine commitment to making football stronger.
“On behalf of Football Australia, I extend our sincere condolences to Estelle’s husband Chris, her sons Sam and Charlie, her family and friends, and everyone across the South Australian football community mourning her loss.”
“Estelle was a dear friend, and she will be very dearly missed.”
Estelle’s contribution to football was recognised with Life Membership of Football South Australia in 2025.
Football Australia acknowledges and thanks Estelle for her outstanding service to the game.
Vale Estelle Bowman.
