CommBank Young Matildas opponents revealed for AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™

The CommBank Young Matildas have learned their Group Stage opponents for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™, following the official draw held on Monday afternoon at the Grand Fourwings Bangkok.

The draw saw 12 qualified nations divided into three groups of four, with the tournament scheduled to take place from April 1-18, 2026, across three stadiums in Thailand.

Australia has been placed in Group C, alongside Japan (Pot 1), Chinese Taipei (Pot 3) and India (Pot 4).

The AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ also serves as the qualification pathway for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™, with the top four teams earning a place at the global event.

Australia will be aiming to secure one of those coveted spots and continue to cement its place in youth football.

CommBank Young Matildas Head Coach Alex Epakis said the group stages will help shape the team’s approach to upcoming matches as they prepare to navigate the opening phase of the tournament:

The AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ will take place from 1 - 18 April 2026 and serve as the qualification tournament for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™ from 5 - 27 September 2026.
