The Caltex Socceroos and Westfield Matildas will play matches in Canberra over the next 18 months after the announcement of a $20 million investment by the ACT Government in Tuesday’s 2019-20 budget.

Football Australia is saddened to hear the news of the passing of Hall of Fame Member and respected referee Anton “Tony” Boskovic.
Born in Blato, Croatia, Boskovic emigrated to Australia in 1955 where he resided in NSW.
Boskovic quickly rose through the referee ranks in NSW to become acknowledged as the best in Australia.
He was in the centre for 13 consecutive NSW State League grand finals and became a regular for the National Soccer League from its inception in 1977 until he retired in 1983.

The second workshop on experiments with video assistant referees (VARs) in football will be hosted by Major League Soccer (MLS) from 19 to 21 July in New Jersey, USA.
It follows on from the kick-off workshop in the Netherlands in May, when interested competition organisers found out more about the requirements they need to meet in order to take part in the two-year trial overseen by The IFAB.
The three-day workshop will be attended by more than 20 leagues and associations from across the globe, including Australia.

Football Australia has confirmed the match schedule for the Australia Cup 2023 Round of 16, featuring several intriguing clashes across four Match Days, as Isuzu UTE A-League Men and National Premier League (NPL) sides battle it out for a place in the competition’s Quarter Finals.

The Head Coach of the Newcastle Jets, Ernie Merrick, has been fined $3,000 after being found to have breached the FFA National Code of Conduct.
Merrick was asked by FFA to explain statements he made in the post-match media conference after the Hyundai A-League Round 16 match between Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory on 27 January 2019.
In determining the appropriate sanction, FFA took into account a range of factors, including that this was not Merrick’s first breach of the Code.
Merrick has until 25 February 2019 to appeal FFA’s determination, should he wish to do so…

Football Australia is saddened to hear of the passing of Socceroo cap #258, Peter Stone.
Stone was born in Brisbane on September 30, 1954, before his family moved to Newcastle when he was nine years old.
During the early 1960's , Peter played his junior football for Kotara South and Adamstown Rosebuds, before playing at senior level for Adamastown Rosebuds and a host of Sydney-based clubs.
The midfielder would go on to play at the highest level of Australian football, and enjoyed a stint abroad representing Tottenham Hotspur in 1980.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is saddened to learn of the death of former Socceroos coach Rudi Gutendorf, who passed away overnight at the age of 93.
The German-born Gutendorf was in charge of the Socceroos between 1979 and 1981, leading the senior men’s national team to the Oceania Cup title in 1980, a competition won with a largely Under 20-based squad.
FFA Chief Executive David Gallop AM paid tribute, saying “We are sad to learn of the passing of Rudi Gutendorf, who was a quite remarkable football coach.”
“His long and illustrious career saw him coach 19 men’s international teams…
