Football Australia is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Hall of Famer, Cliff Sander.

Sander was born in Ipswich in 1932 and played 21 times for Australia and also starred on the local scene in Queensland.

Sander experienced state premiership success very early in his career aged 17, when he was part of the St Helens side that won the Queensland title in 1948. He won another state premiership there in 1956.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ have confirmed that the upcoming edition of Asia’s flagship national team competition will be held from January 12 to February 10, 2024.

International matches and a Home of Football for the ACT

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced a ground-breaking partnership with the ACT Government and Capital Football that will see the Caltex Socceroos and Westfield Matildas play international matches in Canberra and the development of a new ‘Home of Football’ in the nation’s capital.

FFA fines Ernie Merrick for breaching National Code of Conduct

The Head Coach of the Newcastle Jets, Ernie Merrick, has been fined $3,000 after being found to have breached the FFA National Code of Conduct.

Merrick was asked by FFA to explain statements he made in the post-match media conference after the Hyundai A-League Round 16 match between Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory on 27 January 2019.

In determining the appropriate sanction, FFA took into account a range of factors, including that this was not Merrick’s first breach of the Code.

Merrick has until 25 February 2019 to appeal FFA’s determination, should he wish to do so…

Socceroos’ Head Coach Graham Arnold has named his 26-man squad to represent Australia at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will captain the side in Qatar at what will be his third FIFA World Cup, with Mathew Leckie the other player in the squad selected to represent Australia at a FIFA World Cup for the third time.

This year’s tournament will be the second FIFA World Cup for Aziz Behich, Milos Degenek, Jackson Irvine, Jamie MacLaren, Aaron Mooy and Bailey Wright, with seventeen players selected in a FIFA World Cup squad for the first time.
