Eight changes for CommBank Socceroos’ November FIFA International Window

The CommBank Socceroos squad has a strong sibling flavour, with Lucas Herrington (Hull City) and Diesel Herrington (Central Coast Mariners) joining Tete Yengi (Machida Zelvia) and Kusini Yengi (Sanfrecce Hiroshima) in the 25-player squad for the November FIFA International Window.

There are eight changes from the squad that faced Brazil in September’s Queensland Football Series, with goalkeepers Joe Gauci (Lincoln City) and Tom Glover (RB Omiya Ardija), joined by Gianni Stensness (Viking FK), Sam Klein (St Pauli), Daniel Arzani (Ferencváros), Thomas Waddingham (Portsmouth), Diesel Herrington and Kusini Yengi.

Head Coach Tony Popovic’s squad includes seven potential debutants: Eli Adams (Gamba Osaka), Kealey Adamson (QPR), Kasey Bos (Excelsior Rotterdam), Glover, Diesel Herrington, Klein and Waddingham.

For Klein, Waddingham and Diesel Herrington, it is their first Socceroos call-up. Kusini Yengi is in line for his first Socceroos appearance since November 2024, when he scored twice against Bahrain.

Eleven members of the FIFA World Cup 2026 squad are included: Patrick Beach (Troyes), Aziz Behich (Melbourne City), Alessandro Circati (Benfica), Jason Geria (Albirex Niigata), Lucas Herrington, Nestory Irankunda (Sporting CP), Jacob Italiano (Grazer AK), Connor Metcalfe (St Pauli), Paul Okon-Engstler (FC Köln), Harry Souttar (Leicester City) and Tete Yengi.

The Socceroos will first face reigning AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar in Doha on November 13 (November 14 AEDT).

Ahead of the second match of the window, against Jordan, Football Australia will continue to assess the security environment and will provide players with updates.

This window follows the rescheduling of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027, which is now proposed to be held from 23 December 2027 to 21 January 2028, subject to FIFA approval. The Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup 2030 qualifying campaign begins in September 2027.

Quotes attributable to CommBank Socceroos Head Coach Tony Popovic:

“While the AFC Asian Cup has been rescheduled, that does not take away from the importance of this window. We have limited opportunities to be together as a group, so every camp and every game is important.

“We will have an eye on continuing to evolve the squad for the future, with our FIFA World Cup 2030 qualifying campaign and the AFC Asian Cup both now in the second half of 2027. This camp gives us another chance to work with new players and see how they fit into what we are building.”

Quotes attributable to Football Australia CEO Martin Kugeler:

“The momentum around the CommBank Socceroos has never been stronger, as we saw in September with sell-out and record crowds against Brazil in Townsville and Brisbane.

“This FIFA international window is another opportunity for the squad to build on the momentum of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the Brazil series.

"For the match against Jordan, we will continue to assess the security environment and provide players and staff with timely, comprehensive updates, including relevant safety advice and risk assessments. The safety and wellbeing of our players and staff remains our highest priority.”
